Naadi Josiyam – Predictions from mysterious palm-leaf manuscrips

May 2, 2009
By Nobleking

Naadi forecast is that branch of Hindu astrology through which predictions are made of individuals from palm-leaf manuscripts. Hand written on palm-leaves, these contain records of the past, present and future of numerous individuals, born anywhere in the world. Naadi is a collective name given to these manuscripts. It is believed that the contents of these palm leaves are dictated by ancient sages such as Agastya, Bhrugu, Shukra, Vasistha and others. There are several volumes of such palm-leaf manuscripts available in various parts of India and these volumes are categorized with respect to the sages i.e. Agastya Naadi, Bhrugu Naadi.

The person who reads from the palm-leaves is known as Naadi-reader. Many volumes of palm-leaf manuscripts are available in Tamilnadu and these are written in old Tamil script, in running strokes. A Naadi-reader should not only be well versed in reading this old Tamil script but also be capable of interpreting the writings. We will here see how the reading is done on the basis of the my own experience.

Typically, Naadi manuscripts are about 10 to 12 inchs in length and one-and-half inches in width. The matter is written in continuous old Tamil strokes in about 8 lines by means of nails or sharp objects(as was the custom in ancient days). The first step is to provide the thumb impression (right thumb for gents and left thumb for ladies) of the questioner(who seeks to know the predictions). The reader will read the thumb impression and find out under which sage category the questioner falls and then will try to locate the particulars of the questioner from the corresponding sage’s collection of manuscripts. Mine fell under sage Agastya’s collection. The reader will commence reading from the leaf and, as he reads, pose a few questions like whether the questioner’s name starts with m, n or I, whether the name contains five letters, whether parents are alive. According to the correctness of the answers, the reader will narrow down the correct palm-leaf that belongs to the questioner. Once the correct palm-leaf manuscript is found then the predictions start. When you go for the first time you will be read from the general chapter which deals with the general particulars about you and your family and general predictions. Usually, the first time visitor will come to know of the following particulars:

1. Visitor’s name (this in fact will written in coded form and the reader has to decipher it. For e.g. if a person’s name is Vishnu, the manuscript may denote this by stating that the visitor’s name matches with the god who carries conch and wheel in his hand).

2. Age of the visitor at the time of seeking this prediction. Date of birth. Here again one may find mention about the auspicious occasion on the day of birth. For instance, the visitor had born on the day of Ganesha Jayanti, he find mention about this in the manuscript.

3. The visitor’s who birth chart.

4. Name of the visitor’s father, mother, how many sisters or brothers, whether the visitor is married or not, whether sisters/brothers married or not, whether the parents are alive.

5. General predictions about future like how prosperous the visitor will be, whether he/she will have any health problem and something about the carrier.

If you want to know about anything specific like your past birth, your future in detail then you may be directed to see other chapters in other volumes after performing some pooja.

In my case, the following information came true:

1. My name, my father’s name, mother’s name and details about my sisters.
2. Date of birth, and the age when I sought to read Naadi
3. Demise of my father in an accident.
4. Information that I was not married at that point in time and would get married to a girl whose name would in three letters(in Tamil), who would be from south, known through common friend and she would be employed after marriage. All these came true!!

I did not opt for reading other chapters from other volumes(though I was directed to perform a pooja for Ganesha to know other details about me). Naadi reader read aloud that was written in the manuscript and whatever the Naadi-reader read from it was recorded in a cassette tape and the same was also written down in a notebook. A sample of what would be written in the notebook is produced below:

Now, is not that amazing? It is a mystery that how the details of everyone dead and alive were predicted many many years ago, and the records have been maintained till now. How is it possible? It is left to one’s imagination and one can only form some hypothetical theory as no research has been done on this(or if any research has been done nothing has been revealed). When I discussed this with my friends so many theories came up. One was that someone with the same name and history details lived at the time the manuscript was created by the sage and the same would apply for every individual. So the sages created a database and preserved it for future generations. Another theory was that the sages had divine power to look into the lives of each and every individual and thus recorded their particulars. But for what purpose?

Recently I read a book on Naadi predictions written by Wing Commander Shashikant Oak. I happened to read this book after I had had my Naadi predictions read out by one Sri Daruma Selvaraj in 2000. The contents of this book has rekindled my curiosity about Naadi reading. This seems to be the only book written in India and Shri Shahikant Oak has done hard work in collating various particulars about the method and practice of various Naadi recordings. The book is full of his very own experience in the Naadi predictions. The book also gives particulars about various Naadi centres in India. But I am afraid the information like contact details may be old as the book was published in 2002.

If anyone is interested to contact Sri Daruma Selvaraj the contact details are below:

    Dear NobleKing,

I also had the same experience a short while back. A real “eye opener”.

Did the naadi reader say the name of your future wife? You mentioned 3 characters in tamil and her location. Did the reader mention her name? And was it actually her name?

I am having difficulty beleiving what was written. The person’s name was interpreted, and the description also matches (accurately) a particular love interest of mine. However, I cant foresee anything happening with that person…

  7. Nobleking on September 11, 2009 at 4:37 pm

No. The Naadi reader did not mention the name of my wife.

    Hi guys,

I went for my reading in May 2006 and was impressed. Wanted to do the pariharam (remedial) then, but family did not heed to my request. We went back in Mar 09, as my bro’s reading, nothing came true. For my bro in his 2nd reading done in Mar 09 (1st was in May 06) it says, since he did not do the pariharam in may 06, there will be changes and confusions. It also said that since he came back (mar 09), it mentioned that in his previous reading, it was for bro’s 6th life, now it mentions about bro’s 5th life. it further adds that bro in his 5th life died young, and reborn soon after, his sin for the 5th and 6th lives are hindering him in his present life. It mentioned that when he’s doing his 2nd reading, he’s jobless.
Anyway, both of us did pariharam (mine based on May 06 reading, his based on his Mar 09 reading).
Mine turned out wrong or should I say as ‘details omitted’ during the reading in May 06, everything mentioned (read from the naadi leaves) about my would-be’s details was correct. Even to the extent that he’s younger than me (only my family knows), this did not come up during the yes/no questioning session. Also, that he’s from Indian related soil (not sure of my translation) as it is a border disputed area (this too, only my family knows), this too did not come up during the yes/no question session.
Anyway, I recently found out that my would-be is married to a widow with 3 older children and he has a child with her about 3 to 4 years old.
So, what was the naadi reading.
In my bro’s 2nd reading in Mar 09, there were 4 instances they mentioned for me :-
1st – it reads that my parents are worried for both my bro and I as we are getting on in age
2nd – it read, your sibings reading done earlier, it will come true, (ulle padi sone palen nadekum, siru-siru thadai than varum, pathegam illai) there will be slight delays, however no harm will come.
3rd – it read, both you and sibling will settle down after much delay. Your sibling will settle down with much delay and lots of confusion
4th – Though your sibling will face a some of hardship/trials in life, but she will over come it
I am still trying to figure out.
But i also read somthing on the net “Predictions are deliberately stated wrong or incorrect. The main purpose of Naadi is not to divine the predictions, but to facilitate the law of Karma to take its natural course of action smoothly and effectively.”

two great nadi places to visit are the ones in vaitheeswaran koil and another near Tiruchi (Mambazha saalai).

These two were brilliant and they are not for money and the ambience is serene (no adhal badhal noisy area)

The predictions were 100% accurate in terms of 7th kaandam (marriage partner). we personally saw for my sister regarding marriage and the name of the person, his parent’s names the place of his house, details like the sun passing through the street (south facing house as the street is east – west direction), temples and trees around the house all were so perfectly predicted by Agasthiyar near tiruchi nadi.

in vaitheeswaran koil for me it was told when i saw in 1996 “inaiaadhi tharagaadhi menmai” meaning
inaiaadhi = internet, tharagaadhi = ommission
    menmai = superior

Now I am doing business through internet (marketing). mind you there was no internet at that time in India (1996). I was astonished to check it has come true. I discovered that when i casually went through the book again.
